A common myth about the bird flu is that eating poultry which has been infected with the bird flu virus will pass the h5n1 virus onto those who eat it. This is not true, in fact the bird flu virus susceptible to heat meaning that if you cook the meat thoroughly, you will cook the virus out of the meat and contracting bird flu through eating thoroughly cooked poultry will not infect you with the h5n1 virus. Another common myth about the bird flu virus is that if you take anti viral medications it will aid in the prevention of contracting h5n1 virus. This is not true. If you are taking anti viral medication without and signs of symptoms can cause a lot of harm to ones body and eventually will begin to aid in the mutation of the h5n1 virus if you do happen to contract it. If you do happen to contract the virus while taking anti viral medications, they will not help you. Another common myth about the bird flu is that infected birds will show signs and symptoms of bird flu. This is not always true, as some birds get a milder case of bird flu and do not show symptoms as it is possible for the virus to lay dormant in certain cases. in fact, there are some cases where the bird will show no signs or symptoms and recover from the virus. There are also cases which are so serious and extreme that the bird will die within 48 hours of contracting the virus.
