In many different Asian and European countries birds had been showing up dead quite frequently, and when studied it was discovered that the birds were infected with the h5n1 virus. This virus is very contagious amongst birds and can be spread from bird to bird very easily. Some bird will not show any signs of this virus where as other will die from it. This virus can only be spread from bird to bird, and from bird to human, the virus has not mutated to the level where the h5n1 virus can spread from human to human. If the virus mutated to the level where it could be spread from person to person, then it would cause a world wide pandemic of the bird flu. Ensuring that poultry is tested for the h5n1 virus before it is distributed is a precaution which is being taken very seriously in the countries which are being effected by the h5n1 virus. It is best not to make contact with egg shells if you are traveling, as they can contain bird droppings and can cause you to be effected by the h5n1 virus. its important that if you have a domesticated bird, make sure that you keep its cage and food dishes indoors and away from any means of which a wild bird can come in contact and pass the h5n1 virus along to domesticated pet birds. As you can tell the the h5n1 virus is very serious in other countries and precautions are being taken to prevent the spread of this virus.
